Hayley sat backstage at the Backstreet Boys concert with her best friends, Leighanne and Kristin. Hayley was married to Nick. Leighanne was married to Brian. Kristin was married to Kevin. Hayley was six months pregnant with her and Nick’s first child.

      “Hayley,” Leighanne said.

      “He’s cheating on me,” Hayley said.

      “What,” Kristin said.

      “AJ confirmed my suspicions, Nick has been acting different and never around me much,” Hayley said.

      “Brian and Kevin made us swear not to say anything,” Leighanne said.

      “I’m just the pregnant wife,” Hayley said.

      “Oh Hayley,” Leighanne said rubbing Hayley’s back. Kristin held her hand.

A young woman came in with Sarah. Nick and AJ came out of the showers and went over to them. Hayley watched as her husband made out with the girl who came in with Sarah. The four of them went out the door. Kevin, Brian, and Howie came out. They all went to the hotel. Hayley went to her room and got ready for bed and laid down and went to sleep. The next morning, she got up and heard the shower going, knowing it was Nick. She got her stuff together. Nick came out of the bathroom and saw her but said nothing. He got dressed and got her stuff together. Hayley carried her stuff out the door and saw Brian and Leighanne. Brian took her bags and they went down to the lobby.

      “Did he come back?” Leighanne said.

      “He was in the shower when I woke up,” Hayley said.

      “Do you want to ride on our bus?” Leighanne said.

      “Sure,” Hayley said as Nick came down to the lobby.

      “Hayley,” Nick said.

      “I’m riding with Brian and Leighanne to the next city, you can have your bus to yourself and whoever you are messing around with,” Hayley said.

      “Hayley,” Nick said.

      “Save it, Nick, I’m not stupid, you are still the same old Nick, a player, I’m just your pregnant wife,” Hayley said. She went out the door. Brian looked at Nick. He looked at Leighanne.

      “I’m riding with Nick, you two have a girl talk,” Brian said. Leighanne went out the door after kissing him. Brian and Nick went out and got on Nick’s bus.

      “I wanted to talk to Hayley, I want to be a true husband,” Nick said.

      “It might be too late,” Brian said.

      “Do you think she’ll leave me?” Nick asked.

      “Nick, she can’t, because of the baby, she doesn’t want the baby growing up with its father,” Brian said.

      “What am I going to do,” Nick said.

      “I don’t know,” Brian said. Nick sat there looking out the window.

Chapter 2

Hayley stared out the window while rubbing her stomach.

      “I don’t know what I’m going to do, it feels like the only person who really loves me is this unborn child, I don’t think Nick loves me anymore,” Hayley said. Leighanne sat down beside her.

      “Hayley, you know Brian and I are here for you,” Leighanne said.

      “But Brian is Nick’s best friend, he won’t want to take sides,” Hayley said.

      “I know that, but he’ll be here for you regardless, and still be Nick’s friend,” Leighanne said.

      “Nick won’t stop being a player, I think he’s not ready to be a father,” Hayley said.

      “He is, Hayley, he was so excited when he found out you were pregnant, he couldn’t stop jumping around, he was so happy, he kept saying that he could wait to be a father,” Leighanne said.

      “But why is all this happening, why is he cheating on me, it’s like he doesn’t care about me anymore,” Hayley said.

      “Hayley,” Leighanne said.

      “I’m going to lay down, I’m tired,” Hayley said. She went to the back and laid down on the bed.

Leighanne called Brian and talked to him. She hung up and thought about the plan that he came up with. They had to get Hayley and Nick to talk. When the buses arrived at the next city, Leighanne and Hayley got off Brian’s bus while Brian and Nick got off Nick’s bus. They headed into the hotel. They got their room keys. Hayley made sure that she had her own room. She went to her room.

      “Hayley, wait,” Leighanne said pulling her to her and Brian’s room. She went in and saw Nick sitting there with Brian. Brian got up and left the room. Hayley stood there looking at Nick.

      “I wanted to talk to you,” Nick said.

      “What is there to talk about, shouldn’t you be out screwing other women like you usually do,” Hayley said.

      “I have stopped that, I want to be a true husband,” Nick said.

      “It’s too late for that, I can’t take it anymore, as soon as we get back to Florida, I’m filing for a divorce and moving out and moving on with my life away from you,” Hayley said.

      “What about our baby,” Nick said.

      “My baby will be just fine,” Hayley said.

      “The baby is mine, too, Hayley, you can’t shut me out of its life, I’m trying to make things right here,” Nick said.

      “You made your choice when you started screwing around with other women, did you even think I would be okay with you, god, you made out with Sarah’s friend in front of me, I felt like my life was over, I can’t believe I married you!” Hayley said. Nick came over to her and stood in front of her.

      “I don’t want to lose you,” Nick said.

      “You should have thought of that before you started screwing around on me, I’m not going to stand by and watch my husband make out with other women, you couldn’t change before, you won’t be able to change now, I will not go down that road again,” Hayley said. Nick knelt down in front of her and wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his head on her stomach. He listened to the baby and tears came to his eyes.

      “Please don’t leave me, Hayley, I can’t bear to lose you, I can’t go on without you,” Nick said crying. Hayley stood there as he held onto her crying. She didn’t know what to do.

Chapter 3

Hayley pulled away from Nick and moved away from him.

      “You should have thought of that before you screwed other women, what happened, Nick, am I so unattractive that you can’t stand to be near me in bed, are you even ready to be a father, is that what it’s all about, that you aren’t ready to become a father, am I ugly or something, do you not love me anymore, tell me, Nick, what was so wrong with me that you had to turn to other woman to satisfy you,” Hayley said.

      “Not a damn thing, you didn’t do anything wrong, you are not ugly, I want to be a father more than anything, Hayley, god, you are so beautiful no matter what you look like, you are the most attractive person on earth to me, you are my wife, my life, I know about you and AJ, that you two had a one night stand, before we were married and you got pregnant, I walked in and saw you two having sex, I tried to forget it because I knew you loved me and you proved it when you married me and got pregnant with my child, I know it’s mine because it was four months later that you found out that you were three months pregnant, but the image of you and AJ wouldn’t go away and I guess I turned to other women to erase the image, but now, god, I’m hurting you, and I can’t stand hurting you anymore,” Nick said.

      “So you saying that it’s my fault that you were screwing other women,” Hayley said.

      “I didn’t say that,” Nick said.

      “You did,” Hayley said.

      “Hayley,” Nick said.

      “No, Nick, you can do whatever you want, our marriage is over,” Hayley said. She went out the door. Nick sank down to the floor.

Hayley walked down the hall to her room went in and closed the door. She leaned against the door and closed her eyes. She rubbed her stomach.

      “I’m sorry, baby, but I can’t forgive your daddy for everything he did, you are my life now, we will be fine without him,” Hayley said. There was a knock at the door. She opened the door and saw Brian and Leighanne.

      “I would like to be left alone and don’t force me to talk to Nick again, the marriage is over, I’m filing for a divorce, and nothing is going to change my mind,” Hayley said.

      “Hayley,” Leighanne said.

      “What, Leighanne, what now, should I give him another chance, is that what you are going to tell me,” Hayley said.

      “Kevin and Howie just took Nick to the hospital, he slit his wrists open,” Leighanne said.

      “Fine, I’ll go to the hospital but I’m still filing for a divorce,” Hayley said. She went to the hospital and walked into her husband’s room and saw Sarah’s friend kissing Nick. She shook her head.

      “Excuse me!” Hayley said. They broke apart and saw her.

      “Hayley,” Nick said.

      “You seem to be doing better,” Hayley said.

      "Who are you," the girl said.

      "I'm surprised Sarah didn't tell you, I'm Hayley, Nick's pregnant wife, but don't worry, you can have him because as soon as the tour is over and we are back in Florida, I'm filing for a divorce, well, it was a waste of my time coming down here since you are here with him, I don't need to be, goodbye," Hayley said. She went out the door as Brian and Leighanne came up to her.

      "Hayley," Leighanne said.

      "It was a waste of time, his lover is with him so I don't need to be," Hayley said.

      "Hayley, wait," Leighanne said.

      "Stop it, Leighanne, you think you can fix things but you can't, nothing you do will make me change my mind, get it through your head, I'm not changing my mind, don't force me to forgive him and stay with him because I can't!" Hayley said.

      "Leighanne, stop pushing her to get back with him when she doesn't want to me, you can't make her decisions, it is her choice, you are only hurting her," Brian said. Leighanne looked at him.

      "Leighanne, I know you want things back to normal, but they can't, he made his choice, I made mine, leave it be, it's better this way," Hayley said.

      "I'm only thinking of what's best for the baby," Leighanne said.

      "The baby and I will be fine," Hayley said. She walked down the hall. Kevin and Kristin came in.

      "Hayley, are you okay," Kristin said.

      "Yeah, Leighanne had me come down here for no reason, Nick didn't need me, he has his lover with him and Leighanne's pressuring me to get back together with him," Hayley said.

      "It is your choice, Hayley, we won't force you to do anything you don't want to do, we are here for you," Kristin said.

      "Can you guys take me back to the hotel," Hayley said.

      "Sure," Kevin said. They went back to the hotel. Once Hayley was in her room, she broke down crying.

Chapter 4

Hayley sat in her room crying when she heard someone knock on the door. She opened it and saw AJ. He came in and closed the door and hugged her. She cried in his arms.

      “Shhh,” AJ said.

      “I can’t stop loving him, AJ, I can’t,” Hayley said crying.

      “I know,” AJ said.

      “He slept around because he saw us in bed together,” Hayley said.

      “I’ve talked to him,” AJ said.

      “I honestly don’t think he loved me as much as he said he did,” Hayley said.

      “He does, Hayley, that girl, Amber, who is a friend of Sarah’s, well, she was only after him for his money, Sarah was only with me because of my money, I sent her home, I sent Amber home, too, they won’t been around anymore, Nick is dead set on getting you back,” AJ said.

      “He’s wasting time,” Hayley said.

      “He’s not giving you a divorce, he will fight it, and he will win, he has the money, Hayley, to fight it, you know it,” AJ said.

      “AJ, don’t force me to go back to him,” Hayley said.

      “I’m not, baby, I’m just telling you the facts, it’s your choice,” AJ said.

      “I can’t give him another chance, it hurts too much to be near him, knowing that he had to turn to other women to satisfy him, to hurt me for no reason,” Hayley said.

      “I want to know if you are going to let Nick see his child, he wants to be a father, Hayley, you know as well as I do that he wants to be a father,” AJ said.

      “I can’t keep his child away from him, I can’t do that to my child, I can’t let my child grow up with its father,” Hayley said. Kevin and Kristin came in.

      “Brian and Leighanne just brought Nick back to the hotel, he wants to see you, Hayley,” Kristin said.

      “I can’t,” Hayley said.

      “Just talk to him, Hayley, no one is pressuring you to get back together with him, just talk, that’s all,” AJ said. Hayley went to Nick’s room. Brian hugged Hayley and left the room. Hayley stood by the door looking at Nick who was sitting up on the bed.

      “What do you want,” Hayley said.

      “I want you back, Hayley, I want things back to the way they were,” Nick said.

      “Not possible,” Hayley said.

      “Hayley,” Nick said.

      “No, Nick, you ruined that by screwing other women, you showed me that I’m just a trophy wife, that I’m nothing to you, you showed that you don’t care about our marriage or my feelings when you were making out with Amber in front of me, you showed that you are not ready for fatherhood, you ripped my heart out and stomped on it, you may fight the divorce for all I care, but I am never going to be with you ever again, but I can’t keep you from your child, I’m not that heartless to ban you from your child, I will come up with a custody agreement in the divorce, but I am done, you should understand that,” Hayley said. She went out the door and went back to her room.

Two months later, the tour was over and they were back in Florida. Hayley filed for divorce and joint custody of the baby once it’s born. She had her own house near AJ. She was sitting on the couch when she started having pains. She got up and called AJ and grabbing her stomach as the pains got worse. AJ came in and took her to the hospital. Dr. Kelly examined her.

      “You are in labor, Hayley,” Dr. Kelly said.

      “It’s too early,” Hayley said.

      “You are already in the early stages of labor,” Dr. Kelly said.

      “Oh god,” Hayley said.

      “I’m calling Nick, he should be here,” AJ said. He went out the room.

Chapter 5

AJ came in with Nick behind him. Nick stood beside her.

      “I can’t believe this,” Hayley said.

      “Me either,” Nick said.

      “I’ll leave you two alone,” AJ said. He went out the door. Nick stood there. She grabbed his hand.

      “Don’t leave me,” Hayley said.

      “I won’t,” Nick said.

      “I mean ever,” Hayley said.

      “Hayley,” Nick said.

      “I forgive you, I don’t want a divorce,” Hayley said.

      “Are you just saying this or is it the truth,” Nick said.

      “I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true,” Hayley said.

      “I love you,” Nick said kissing her forehead.

      “Do you want to be a father?” Hayley asked.

      “More than anything in the world,” Nick said.

      “Are you ready to be a father,” Hayley said.

      “Yes, I am ready, I’ve always been ready,” Nick said. Dr. Kelly came in and checked Hayley.

      “You have awhile before its time,” Dr. Kelly said. She left the room. Hayley looked at Nick.

      “I can’t believe this is happening, I guess the baby wants out,” Hayley said.

      “The baby wants to see us,” Nick said. Hayley sat up.

      “Something’s not right, get Dr. Kelly,” Hayley said. Nick went to get her. Dr. Kelly came in and checked her again.

      “We better get some tests done,” Dr. Kelly said. Nurses came in. They ran tests. Dr. Kelly looked them over.

      “We better do a C-section,” Dr. Kelly said.

      “Is there something wrong with the baby,” Nick asked.

      “These tests are not good, we better get the baby out,” Dr. Kelly said. They got her prepped and took her to the delivery room. Nick followed and got scrubbed up and went in and sat beside her and held her hand.

Out in the waiting room…

AJ, Brian, Leighanne, Kevin, Kristin, and Howie sat out there waiting. An hour later, Nick came out smiling.

      “It’s a girl, I have a daughter, her name is going to be Alexis Marie Carter,” Nick said. They all hugged.

Epilogue

Hayley sat in her hospital room holding Alexis. Nick sat beside her and they just watched the baby. Everyone came in.

      “She’s so beautiful,” Kristin said.

      “I know,” Hayley said. They all got to hold the baby. Nick kissed Hayley’s forehead. Leighanne smiled.

      “Guys, we are back together officially, the divorce has been called off,” Nick said.

      “About time,” Leighanne said.

      “It wasn’t easy but I just couldn’t stand being without him,” Hayley said.

      “We are happy you two are back together,” Brian said.

      “Things are back to the way they should be,” Leighanne said. Alexis was back in Hayley’s arms and Nick sat next to Hayley and they just watched their daughter with their friends around them. They knew everything was going to be fine.
